Dalvik

I was looking forward to going to Davik because that is where the ferry for Grimsey is located. Mary wanted to go because the Kaffihus Bakkabraedra is said to have the best fish soup (not stew apparently) in all of Iceland. We did find the ferry terminal, but the ferry was on its run to Grimsey. Grimsey is where our “great-great-great  grandparents Gudni and Rosa Gudmundson and their two little girls spent a few years.  It was a harsh life.    Rosa was to bear five babies on Grimsey all of whom died.”

Kaffihus Bakkabraedra was great. No fish soup in winter, but it was a great little bar with loads of curios of three elves who are said to have lived around here and some Liverpool stuff in the back and a big screen. We asked the owner if he was a fan and he said,”Yes–big game tonight.” It’s a Liverpool/Everton game and he said he would be watching it. Ken told him we were on our way back to Siglufjordur, and he told us no problem. They reopen the bakery in Siglufjordur for the big games. He called the bakery to let them know we were coming, and we are on our way right now.
